The Simply guide to becoming the DIY and flat pack pro everyone wants to know

When it comes to redecorating and house maintenance, many would prefer to look the other way, especially the building of several pieces of Swedish flat-pack furniture.

But with our latest blog, we will guide you to becoming a ‘do it yourself’ type of person. With the right tools and our ‘how to’ tips, things may just even become enjoyable.

Stress less with your flat-packing

‘DIY’ we all know stands for “do it yourself”, but naturally it requires the right tools & knowledge before you can get started.

But are tools really all you need for the job?

For us, it is about being as organised as possible and fortunately our Simply Tools range has the majority of products you would need for most home maintenance tasks. Our high-quality, practical yet still stylish range of tools can have you prepared for anything.

We can help with what you need to assemble but the most important factors about successful construction outside of a well-stocked toolbox, is having a little patience and always following the instructions. As an added measure, you can consider browsing the internet for how-to guides and useful tips on your task at hand.

The saying “measure twice, drill once” definitely applies to flat pack building. Before you hammer the nail in, make sure you’re hammering the right piece, or is it even the right type of nail? The instructions can be confusing so make sure you check carefully.

It can be a real chore but consider counting out all the needed parts from the packaged contents. It sounds excessive but nothing will be worse than finding your one hinge short for your new cupboard doors.

The right tool for the job

With our ever-growing portfolio of products we’re likely to have exactly what you are looking for, whether it be for assembling the latest Ladder Shelving for any contemporary interior, or mounting our Smart Doorbell

Take for example our Precision Screwdriver Set, the humble screwdriver when it comes to our toolbox essentials is probably the most popular for home “DIY’ers” and this set will have you covered for the majority of flat pack assembly but if you’re frequently reaching for the tools, consider something more robust and fit for purposes such as our 58 piece screwdriver set, 12 piece spanner set or our 40 piece ratchet set.

Don’t overtighten.

One of the most underrated tips we can offer may save you a mountain of heartache. The most organised and experienced of “DIY’ers” can make mistakes – we’re only human after all. Additionally, some elements won’t need to be tightened to extreme measures. Could you screw through a piece by applying too much pressure or applying another turn?

By not over-tightening your bolt, fastener or screw can save you from causing major damage but that said, don’t forget to efficiently tighten the screws once you’re happy.

So as a recap, our advice would always be before you even open the toolbox, follow these simple steps:

  • take out & read through the instructions

  • list what tools and equipment you will need

  • Stay organised - layout the parts

  • Give yourself as much space as you can

  • Don’t over-tighten!

Our Simply Brands ethos is all down to starting out as a family run business providing the highest quality products within all our ranges.

So you can rest assured knowing all our maintenance products are covered under a 12 month guarantee so it isn’t just the flat pack that has been built to last but the tools too.
