Before we can sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labor, Summer gardens always seek some work beforehand to get things looking great. However, nothing a bit of forward planning and Simply Brands top tips can’t help you with.
From gardening tips, outdoor maintenance advice, and our Simply Living range your garden will be ready for al fresco dining in no time.
Tidy your Garden Borders
Starting the season as you mean to go on will make your borders much easier to maintain for the coming Summer months. To ensure our borders are looking tidy and ready for the new blooming season, firstly get rid of any weeds, followed by a sprinkling of general fertilizer over the top, finished off with a layer of mulch or bark chipping to keep the roots moist and in shade. Now everything is tidy you can go ahead and plant in areas you feel are looking sparse or need a bit of color!
As an extra help, you can use our Electric Weed Burner to tackle the bulk of it.
Check your gardening equipment
To ensure your gardening equipment lasts, it is a good idea to complete maintenance checks ahead of the summer months, when the equipment is likely to get the most use. Start by wiping any excess dirt off your tools, sharpen any tool edges that need it or replace the ones that you can’t, sand and oil any wooden handles, and tighten any loose nuts and bolts with the Simply 18 piece Screwdriver Set.
To ensure your garden equipment stays in good condition for next Summer, ensure you use covers and protection where possible! The Simply Adjustable BBQ Cover is perfect to keep your BBQ in new and rust-free condition.
Clean Patios, decking, and furniture
Garden furniture, decking, and patios that are covered in grime and dirt quickly lose their appeal and can lead to a lackluster look for your garden. But as it turns out, it’s really easy to do some quick maintenance and ensure your garden is looking tip-top. Firstly we recommend you get rid of any loose dirt using a brush, then apply warm soapy water (depending on the surface) and give things a thorough clean. Depending on the surface, rinse off with a power washer or perhaps just a Garden Hose ensuring all the soap suds have been removed, and leave to thoroughly dry.
You can then give your decking, fencing our wooden furniture a touch up of paint using our portable pressure washers/sprayers.
Perk up your Lawn
Ensuring your lawn and plants stay hydrated in the Summer months is very important to ensure the changing climate doesn’t wreak havoc and destroy your dreams of a luscious green lawn for Summer! You can start by fertilizing, and filling any sparse spots with feed and grass seed. If your lawn is in good condition already and ready to be mowed don’t forget to raise the mowing deck to its highest setting on your lawnmower to avoid cutting grass too short, especially initially as this can weaken your lawn causing slower growth and dull colour! Remember to use a suitable Sprinkler or Garden Hose to ensure your lawn stays well hydrated. It is always best to wait until the evening or early morning to do this when the Sun is not so harsh.
Chilly nights? No problem
Get ready for those chillier nights with a New Fire Pit or patio heater. What could be better than finishing off the evening with a glowing firepit to keep your family and guests cozy and warm? Firepits create a stunning ambiance too! Meaning you can use your garden for even longer, you won’t want to leave!
